Malique, a four-year-old living in the care of Sophie’s Place, tells a story of resilience in his big brown eyes.
Born with hypertonic muscles and a severely curved spine, Malique faces daily physical challenges. His condition requires constant care, including soothing massages to relax his tense muscles and the use of a special spine extender to ease his pain.
Through these obstacles, Malique’s face lights up with joy when he sees his caregivers, especially Janice, who has worked with Mustard Seed Communities for 18 years. In the year Malique has been living with MSC, Janice learned exactly what care with which Malique thrives – for example, she knows that he can be frightened easily, so before she feeds him or brings him to physical therapy, she speaks gently and reassures him of his unconditional safety.
Hear Janice describe life at Sophie’s Place for Malique in her own words
Malique’s bond with Janice is filled with trust. Janice and the dedicated Sophie’s Place team tirelessly ensure that he receives the best possible care, knowing it is the most valuable gift they can give.
Malique’s experience of ongoing love and tenderness leaves us with precious gratitude for his presence.
