Fundraise with us
Thank you for wanting to support the people and communities we serve. If you would like to organize a fundraiser connected with Mustard Seed Communities, please begin by getting in touch. Together, we can make sure your plans honor our residents and give supporters a clear picture of where their gifts will go.
Tell us about your ideaThese guidelines apply to individuals, businesses, churches, schools, nonprofits, volunteer groups, event organizers, and anyone else raising money using an association with Mustard Seed Communities (MSC).
Please contact MSC and receive written approval before announcing or launching a fundraiser. This includes crowdfunding pages, social media appeals, events, product sales, sponsorships, and campaigns benefiting a particular MSC home, program, or country. An intention to donate the proceeds does not by itself authorize the use of MSC’s name or content.
How to get started
We review each proposed campaign individually. Please leave enough time for us to review your plans and materials before anything goes public.
- 01
Reach out
Email us with your idea, who is organizing it, and when and where you hope to run it.
- 02
Share your plan
Send your draft messaging, creative materials, donation details, and how you plan to handle the funds.
- 03
Wait for approval
Launch only after MSC confirms in writing the approved materials, channels, dates, and financial terms.
- 04
Keep us informed
Share live links at launch, seek approval for material changes, and provide proceeds and a final accounting afterward.
What to include in your request
About your fundraiser
- Your organization’s legal name, contact information, website, and relevant registration or tax status.
- The purpose, dates, audience, locations, channels, and fundraising goal.
- The MSC country, home, program, or purpose you hope to support.
- All draft copy, designs, photographs, video, logos, and other content you want to use.
About donations
- The donation platform and payment processor, and the legal organization receiving gifts and issuing receipts.
- How much MSC will receive, including any fees, expenses, or deductions, and when funds will be sent.
- How you will address donor questions, refunds, data privacy, reporting, and the end of the campaign.
Put residents’ dignity and privacy first
The people in our care have a right to safety, privacy, and respectful representation. MSC must approve any resident story, image, video, quotation, or personal information used in a fundraiser.
Use only approved content
Content on MSC’s website or social channels is not automatically available for reuse. Do not photograph, film, interview, identify, or gather information from a resident for fundraising without advance MSC approval and the appropriate consent.
Tell stories with care
Do not share diagnoses, trauma histories, family information, full names, precise locations, or other identifying details unless MSC specifically approves them. Images and stories must not be altered or presented in a misleading or demeaning way.
Permission given to MSC by a resident or guardian does not automatically extend to another organization. Approval covers only the specific campaign, materials, channels, territory, and dates MSC authorizes.
Be clear with donors
Before someone gives, they should understand who is running the fundraiser, who receives the donation, and what portion reaches MSC.
Describe the relationship accurately
Use MSC’s approved name and the correct name of any home or program. Do not suggest that you own or operate an MSC program, or describe yourself as an official partner or representative, unless MSC approves that exact wording. MSC’s logo and other brand materials also require written approval.
Explain the gift
State the legal recipient of donations, the campaign purpose, the amount or percentage expected to reach MSC, all applicable deductions, when the funds will be transferred, and who issues any tax receipt. Explain what happens if the campaign or designated need changes.
Claims about residents, care costs, financial needs, deadlines, or results must be current, accurate, and approved. Do not promise that “every dollar” goes to MSC unless that is fully documented.
Suggested relationship statement for MSC review
“[Organizer’s legal name] is an independent organization conducting this fundraiser with the written permission of Mustard Seed Communities. Donations are received and tax-receipted by [legal recipient]. After [fees or deductions], [amount or percentage] will be transferred to Mustard Seed Communities for [approved purpose].”
MSC may provide different approved language for your campaign. Do not publish a statement with unfilled brackets.
While your campaign is running
Follow the approved plan
Ask MSC to approve significant changes to copy, images, donation platforms, partners, financial terms, beneficiaries, or dates before publishing them. Approval of one fundraiser does not cover later campaigns or reuse by another group.
Fundraising does not grant access to residents or permission to contact, visit, photograph, or receive private updates about them. Any proposed visit or communication must follow MSC procedures.
Account for funds and information
Keep complete records of donations, refunds, fees, expenses, and transfers. Use donor information only as disclosed to donors and permitted by applicable privacy requirements. Provide the agreed reporting and transfer the funds according to your written approval or agreement.
If MSC asks you to correct, pause, or remove campaign content, please act promptly and cooperate with any needed donor communications or accounting.
