Every July, Disability Pride Month celebrates the value, dignity, and contributions of people with disabilities.
This year’s theme, “The World Works Better With Us,” reminds us that our communities are stronger when every person has the opportunity to feel like they truly belong.
For Keemo Birthwright , that message is personal.
Keemo has been part of the Mustard Seed Communities family for 24 years. Now 30 years old, Keemo is based at the Matthew 25:40 apostolate in Jamaica.
After earning his Level 1 Certificate in Business Administration, Keemo pursued his passion for computers and now works on Mustard Seed Jamaica’s database team.
We are proud to share this perspective on Disability Pride Month from Keemo, who has a gift for inspiring others with his words and introspection.
What Disability Pride Means to Me

To me, Mustard Seed’s approach to caring for others is a living, breathing example of what Disability Pride Month represents.
Mustard Seed goes beyond providing a place to live. It creates a community that redefines care not as a reaction to vulnerability, but as a steadfast commitment to human dignity.

Mustard Seed doesn’t just create spaces for individuals to exist. They foster environments where people can belong, contribute, and thrive.
They show us that when we adopt a holistic, dedicated approach to caring for others, we’re not just supporting individuals with disabilities, we’re strengthening the entire social fabric.
When everyone is included, the community works in unison. Everyone plays a part, and no role is treated as more important than the next. Thus showing the truth of the community that they represent.
As someone who has grown up at Mustard Seed Communities, pursued higher education, and now serves on the database team, I have experienced firsthand what it means to belong.
To me, that’s what Disability Pride Month is all about: a world where everyone belongs and everyone has something meaningful to contribute.
This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate Keemo and all members of the Mustard Seed family who show us how we can be stronger together. Thank you for being you.
