Say hello to Shanice! Shanice was 6-years-old when she found a home at Mustard Seed and has lived at MSC Jamaica ever since. Born with physical disabilities, Shanice’s family gave her up at 6 years old when they weren’t able to care for her. She was fortunate to find a loving home at MSC Jamaica. As she grew, Shanice did not allow her physical challenges or her wheelchair to hold her back. She attended school, read voraciously, and expressed herself writing poetry.
In Jamaica, it’s especially challenging for people with disabilities to find employment. Many buildings are not even wheelchair accessible. Despite the challenges, and with the encouragement and support of MSC’s staff, Shanice began applying for jobs. She stuck with it and, today, Shanice works for the Red Cross as a receptionist. She looks forward to going to work every day and feels a sense of pride in reaching this milestone in her life.
