For the last two years the coronavirus pandemic has caused many challenges, especially for Mustard Seed Communities. Our homes across the world have truly missed the presence of our mission volunteers and all that they do to enhance the lives of the residents. The residents and staff have missed your friendship and fellowship.

Mustard Seed Communities relies on our mission volunteers to share the story of MSC and to fundraise on behalf of the residents so that we can continue to provide for all of their needs; food, medicine, therapy, and lifelong loving care. In 2019, over 1400 mission volunteers traveled to Mustard Seed. At the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 there were less than 300 mission volunteers. In 2021 there were none. The suspension of the mission volunteer program made it challenging for Mustard Seed to provide even the simplest of daily needs for the residents.

In 2021 a group of mission volunteers spearheaded “Race for the Residents,” which took the place of our mission volunteer program and was a huge success. Together, 60 teams of volunteers raised $500,000. These funds ensured that the residents of MSC received the necessary food, medicine, therapy, and care. It ensured that all of MSC’s employees across the world continued to have jobs. It ensured that MSC could welcome new residents who were abandoned, vulnerable, and needed our care. Residents like Zendaya and Vernard at My Father’s House, who have quickly found a place of joy rather than despair. Residents like Paige at Blessed Assurance, who went from being abandoned to having a best friend in Ockiliah after only a couple of months in her new home. Residents like Francis, who was welcomed into Hogar Immanuel and has grown so much in the course of one year. All of this is possible thanks to the generosity of our many volunteers who said yes to Racing for the Residents.

In April of 2022 MSC welcomed its first mission trip in over two years. We are so excited to have teams back on the ground, but we still need the help of our mission volunteer alumni who aren’t traveling this year. This year we are inviting you to 'Raise for the Residents. Can you help us by sharing the story of MSC with your friends, family and community? Along with sharing the story, we hope you’ll consider fundraising for the residents who rely on us for their daily needs.

Making an impact through Raise for the Residents is very easy to do and you can do so by whatever brings you the most joy. Some of our teams have included their whole parish community through events. Some teams have done athletic events with friends and family. Some ‘teams of one’ are asking their friends to support MSC in honor of their birthdays, weddings, or other special life events. No matter how you choose to ‘Raise, just have fun!
