Fr. Garvin Augustine, Executive Director of MSC International, shares the ongoing impact of the pandemic on Mustard Seed Communities, and our urgent need for your support:
My Dear Friends,
While things in the United States have begun to return to normal, the situations in Jamaica and in the other countries where Mustard Seed Communities serve are not great. Covid is still a harsh reality ... the economies of these countries are in crisis ...daily life continues to be challenging and vaccines are either not available or in limited supply.
Currently in Jamaica our caregivers are working extended hours for the care and safety of our children.
In Zimbabwe, our nutrition programs have grown tremendously. Usually we would feed 500 children a day, but now we are feeding well over 1000 children in desperate need.
In these challenging times we are called to further embrace the vision of our Father Founder, Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon, by extending ourselves even more to meet needs of the most neglected, marginalized and abandoned in society.
Over the years we have grown accustomed to our mission volunteers bringing supplies, providing training & expertise, executing construction projects, all of which come together to provide joy, hope and dignity to those left on the margins of society.
This will be the second year in a row without mission volunteers visiting our homes. Remember, the children can’t go anywhere, it is you the volunteers who bring the world to them.
Your commitment to Mustard Seed Communities raises over $2 Million dollars each year. These funds provide food, medicine, shelter, therapy and other necessities to give our children the loving care they deserve.
Now more than ever we need your prayers, that our children and staff can make it through these difficult times. And the reality is, we also need your financial support. It doesn't matter how large or small your contributions are, every gift will make a difference to the lives of our children around the world, your support is our life-line.
Let us continue to be Christ to others and see Christ in others.
On behalf of all our children, I thank you and may God bless you.
