Zimbabwe is a country of 12.5 million people, three million of which live in Harare.
Mustard Seed Communities put its wheels in motion to explore the possibility of offering assistance particularly to children in need in Zimbabwe. In order to achieve this we proposed setting up a caring facility that would be aimed at orphaned children with AIDS.
In October 2000 ground was broken to commence construction of a home for 36 children. This home named The Christ Child, is located in rural community 35km outside Harare a has been existence since 2001.
Zimbabwe - Demographics
Ethnic Composition: African 97.6 per cent; European 2 per cent; Asian and of mixed race less than 1 per cent.
Languages Spoken: English, the official language, is widely spoken. Also Shona and Ndebele.
Education and Literacy: Adult literacy rates are 73.7 per cent for men and 60.3 per cent for women. Africans and non-Africans are educated under the same system, regulated by the Ministry of Education.
Labor Force: Total 3,100,000. By occupation: agriculture 74 per cent, transport and services 16 per cent, mining and manufacturing 10 per cent.
Currency: The currency of Zimbabwe is the Zimbabwe Dollar (Z$).
