Mustard Seed Communities U-Tech project began in November 1998. Trudi Cowan became project co-ordinator and was a key player in our procuring half of one student's flat on campus.
Pressure of space led to the creation of this project. At the time, Mustard Seed Communities were caring for 16 children and had great plans for further expansion. Dr Trevor Hope approached Dr Ray Davis, the President of the University Of Technology, and as a result the project commenced.
U-Tech has also been a forerunner in a program where students volunteers were involved in service projects as part of their curriculum. The projectdeveloped very quickly thereafter and in November 1999 won the Caribbean Commonwealth Prize for community development.
Mustards Seed focus on cognitive development and intend to extend this to a computer lab where communication with and the empowerment of our children will be the main focus. This computer lab will be a pilot project of U-Tech, Dr Curtis and the students of the engineering department.
