Second Chance was opened to provide extra support for young girls who had passed through Mary's Child. It was found that many of the teenage girls who left Mary's Child with their newborn babies had no place to go and could not fend for themselves.

Located in a renovated building acquired through the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Second Chance acts as a two-part project.

For those mothers leaving Mary's Child, Second Chance will act, in part, as a half way house. It provides an opportunity for each mother to make the transaction back into her larger social environment as smooth as possible.

The girls who stay in Second Chance receive extra skills training in the form of practical skills training and also literacy and numeracy training.

In order to prepare them for the realities of their future independence each mother is required to contribute toward rent and personal bills. The burden of working and raising a baby will be eased by a day care center located in a different section of the building.

The Second Chance Day Care Center is a project that runs in association with the Holy Trinity Cathedral parish. Its main objective is to provide a place of care not only for the mothers and babies, but for the surrounding community as well.
