About Us
ROOTS FM is a community radio station owned and operated by the Mustard Seed Communities. Our mission is to assist in inner-city development by focusing on the unique challenges faced by community residents as they go about their daily lives. All our programming aims to empower, uplift and enrich the lives of our listeners by promoting knowledge, dialogue and entertainment that speak to their common realities and aspirations.

Coverage
ROOTS FM broadcasts in Kingston, St. Andrew & St. Catherine on the 96.1FM frequency. Listeners are also situated on the fringes and slopes of St. Mary, Clarendon and St. Thomas. Our potential audience is approximately 700,000 listeners.

Surveys
The last All-Media Survey (2005), did not indicate individual percentages for community stations, however an independent survey by the same research agency- Media Research Services, ranked ROOTS FM as second only to IRIE FM in the inner-city. (IRIE FM is the #1 commercial station in Jamaica).

Every Thursday afternoon ROOTS FM broadcasts from the innards of the inner-city. Not content to stay on the periphery, our team moves into the heart of communities long forgotten by politicians and commercial media. That's where we find the real stories… stories of love, fear, hardships, strife, anticipation and hope. Stories of the real Jamaica.

Community Link-Up involves giveaways; product sampling and music. ROOTS talks to entrepreneurs as well as civic, sports & community based organizations working in the area to restore peace. The 'Open Mic' segment allows residents the opportunity to vent their frustrations on the social disorders in their communities. The themes are constant; crime; lack of jobs & economic opportunity. ROOTS FM is the authentic voice of the inner-city.

Programme Policy
ROOTS works hard to exclude and eliminate all programs, lyrics, statements or suggestions that advocate or celebrate criminality; violent behaviour disregard for the laws of Jamaica; disrespect for women; discrimination on grounds of race, colour, or creed; drug abuse; lewdness.
