As a small community in Spanish Town, Lauriston was faced with a lack of proper housing. Working under the same premise used in a similar successful low-income housing project in Bell Rock, Mustard Seed began its involvement in providing training and supplies to produce houses.
The beneficiaries of the project were given the responsibility of constructing their own houses by investing what Mustard Seed Communities term "Sweat Equity".
Through the assistance of Food for the Poor and The Pascucci Family Foundation a block machine was provided as a means of building foundations and lumber provided for the construction of the houses. Eighty single units were produced in all.
