Mustard Seed Communities has been involved in many community projects over the years with varying degrees of success. Projects have varied from paper-making to the Poor Man's Building Society and housing projects to soup kitchens.
Mustard Seeds first foray outside the care of children was to provide a home for pregnant teenage girls who had been abused or raped. This home called Mary's Child presently caters for 10 young girls and four babies.
Mustard Seed Communities caters for the elderly through its Golden Agers program and also its Prayer Clubs. Ironically, churchgoing is the major social activity in downtown Kingston.
Some of the most difficult projects that Mustard Seed Communities has been involved in are its housing projects due to the local politics involved. In its attempt to address the dire poverty of these communities Mustard Seed's economic projects tend to be labor intensive.
Mustard Seed Communities has also started a bank modelled along the lines of the Garmeen Bank in Bangladesh. This allows less wealthy people access to interest free loans.
