Widow's Mite is located in Murray Mount, a small rural community located in the northern part of Jamaica, some 90 miles north west of Kingston. Murray Mount represents Mustard Seed's first home for abandoned handicapped children outside Kingston and St. Catherine. The community itself comprises of about 200 inhabitants. There is a church and a shop and water is trucked into this inaccessible area on a weekly basis. In June 2000, the Bishop of Montego Bay invited Mustard Seed Communities to start a project for children with disabilities in the Diocese. A dilapidated building adjacent to the parish church was donated to Mustard Seed to house the project. The building, which has been undergoing renovations during the summer months is now nearing completion and should be ready for its first intake of children in the coming months. It will eventually house 20 children. |
