Mustard Seed have leased 300 acres of mined-out land in Moneague which is 20 kilometres (35 miles) south of Oche Rios. The land is a blend of lush green hills and valleys. The aim is to develop this land, which would normally be left for cattle rearing or going to waste, into a small farming village.

This project is a combined project between ALCAN, JBI, the Government of Jamaica and Mustard Seed Communities.

Moneague is planned to be the final home for the children in our care. Housing will also be provided for rental to Mustard Seed and local workers and their families.

Using the concept of the Jerusalem! Village and Farm, Moneague will be used as yet another caring location where people with disabilities live in community with people without disabilities. There will also be a large farming project with fish ponds, livestock and fruit and vegetable gardens.

This village will comprise of family homes for approximately 100 physically and mentally disabled adults and 400 families (MSC staff and others), a little retreat center, specializing as well in hosting families with disabled children, who would find an environment in which the family can relax without having to worry about their children.

Income generation projects will be essential in financing Moneague. Mustard Seed plan to go into egg production and fish farming on a larger scale than is already happening at Jerusalem! and are also investigating what fruit and vegetables would be suitable for cultivation on this land.

Mustard Seed now need to capture the resources to develop this project and provide a caring environment with a host of opportunities for children to develop and mature to their full potential.
