By "cutting edge", we do not mean technology and the systems that drive the engines of modern organizations and developed nations. Instead, we refer to the boundary between development and poverty. And we refer to the material, spiritual and intellectual deprivation of large numbers of the citizens of our global village.
The subjects of this story are people - lost, forgotten, poor, marginalized, brutalized - beautiful people, beautiful children.
The hypothesis of the story is that CARING can be the sharp edge that will allow societies to cut through the barriers that stubbornly prevent their inclusion in the productive energies of our global village. The readily available and largely unemployed asset, that will allow this inclusion, is CARING!
For many years, nations led by the multilateral institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF, firmly adopted as "unshakeable theory" the notion that "development" was based primarily upon economics. They insisted upon the adoption of the prevailing 'Economic Model' to generate growth and development and ensure transition to the family of 'developed nations'. The evidence is that these "theories" have largely failed and more emphasis is now being placed upon 'the human element' and the need to 'eliminate poverty' and promote 'democracy'.
What is the alternative? A little known resource lies just below the surface of all human beings, much like the natural resources of Mother Earth, such as the petrochemical reserves with which many nations have been blessed.
