To dedicate ourselves to serving and uplifting the most vulnerable members of society, we must be rooted in our own faith and believe that what we are doing is what we have been called to do. There are times when working in such an environment that we question our beliefs. We ask why a child is condemned to a life of suffering while others walk freely about? Why do some people have to struggle so hard just to feed their children while others are ignorant to their plight? Without a time to reflect on these issues we can become lost and disillusioned. We can lose a sense of purpose and meaning in the act of service. Ultimately we can lose faith in not only our acts, but in God as well. For this reason, Mustard Seed Communities has placed the spiritual growth, of not only the children but also the staff, as the corner stone in its ministries. A growth that allows us to look at a child with multiple disabilities, and see the face of Christ. A growth that allows us to see the hungry man on the street, and thank God for providing.
